abstract A device for receiving a chip shaped carrier (21) having annactive surface (28), e.g. a surface which carries an arrayn(32) of DNA oligonucleids and which is adapted to be read bynan electro-optical reading device. The device comprises: ancartridge having an opening for receiving a liquidnsample and including casing parts (14); a casing partn(14) having an inner surface (17) and outer surface (16), anfirst cavity for receiving a chip shaped carrier (21),nand means (22) which provide access to that first cavity andnthereby to the active surface of the chip shaped carrier; ansealing material (26) which is at least once reversiblynliquidifiable; the shape and dimensions of first cavity,nchip shaped carrier (21), and sealing material (26),nbeing chosen that the chip shaped carrier (21) fits into thenspace delimited by the sealing material (26). The processnfor mounting the carrier (21) in the cartridgenessentially consists in placing the carrier (21) in thenfirst cavity and liquidifying the sealing materialn(26). In the liquid state, the sealing material closes anyngap between the side walls (24) of the first cavitynand the carrier (21), and after solidification, thensealing material constitutes a strong and liquid-tight bond.
