abstract |
It is intended to find an efficient method ofnsearching for drugs affecting the cholesteryl ester cyclenand establish a system of efficiently searching forndefoaming agents or regression agents artheroscleroticnlesion and a system of searching for therapeutic agentsnremedies for atherosclerosis with a mechanism differentnfrom publicly known ones. A method of evaluating effectsnof a test substance on intracellular cholesteryl esternmetabolic regulation which comprises selectively extractingnfree cholesterol with an aqueous alcohol from cells havingnbeen incubated in the presence of the test substance andncells having been incubated in the absence of the testnsubstance, and then comparing the cholesteryl ester contentnin the cells having been incubated in the presence of thentest substance with the cholesteryl ester content in thencells having been incubated in the absence of the testnsubstance; in particular, a method of screening a compoundnhaving an activity of regulating the intracellularncholesteryl ester metabolism; and defoaming promoters,nantiatherogenic agents or agents for regression ofnatherosclerotic lesion containing as the active ingredientncompounds screened by the above method. |
