Expansible shearing catheters for thrombus and occlusive material removal |
abstract |
Devices (10, 130), methods, kits, and methods remove obstructive material (O) from the vascular (W) and other body lumens (BV). Expansible baskets (18, 20) may be used as cooperating radially expansible shearing members. Helically oriented struts (30) of each basket (18 or 20) may wind in a uniform circumferential direction. The struts (30) can be independently flexible, allowing the shearing members (18, 20) to flex axially together. The inner basket (18) may be rotatably driven and may use an axial pump (141') extending proximally from the shearing members (18, 20) and/or a distal penetrator (122) for advancing into an occlusion (O) which inhibits guidewire (GW) access. The struts (30) may slide substantially continuously across each other, and may be sufficiently aggressive for highly effective thrombectomy. A rotationally static and axially flexible outer basket (20) may provide a safe, limited atherectomy treatment. |
