abstract Novel acetoacetylated aromatic amine compounds are claimed. Novel acetoacetylated aromatic amine compounds (I) are of formula (1). [Image] R 1>, R 2>OH, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, halogen, phenyl or phenoxy; R 3>H or 1-6C alkyl; m : 0-4; n : 0-5. Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the production of the compounds (I) (R 3>=1-6C alkyl) by reaction of diketene with an N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine of formula (2) in the presence of 3-40 % acetic acid at 20-100 (60-70) degreesC; (ii) new unsaturated amino-ketone compounds (II) of formula (3) prepared by reaction of the amine compound (I) with ammonia; and (iii) new amino-ketone compounds (III) of formula (4) prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of (II).
