This invention relates to newly identified polynucleotides, polypeptidesnencoded by such polynucleotides, the use of such polynucleotides andnpolypeptides, as well as the production of such polynucleotides and polypeptides.nMore particularly, the polypeptide of the present invention is a KeratinocytenGrowth Factor, sometimes hereinafter referred to as "KGF-2" also formerlynknown as Fibroblast Growth Factor 12 (FGF-12). The invention also relates toninhibiting the action of such polypeptides. This invention further relates to thentherapeutic use of KGF-2 to promote or accelerate wound healing. This inventionnalso relates to novel mutant forms of KGF-2 that show enhanced activity, nincreased stability, higher yield or better solubility. |
