abstract The invention provides a compound comprising nucleotide sequences: -5'-P-N?1-N2-G-N3¿-C-I-3' and 3'-Q-N?4-N5-N6-N7-N8-N9¿-Y-J-5' wherein P and Q are any two nucleotides that can form a Watson-Crick base pair, I and J are any two nucleotides that can form a base pair, N?1 and N4¿ are not both C, when N2 is A, N7 is not G, N9 can only be U if N3 is A, when N3 is G, N9 is A, and wherein said sequences are capable of annealing, characterised in that said compound comprises 200 or fewer nucleotides.
