titleOfInvention | A thermoplastic composition of polyurethane for orthopaedic applications |
abstract | Nanocomposite material (I) for impregnating a flexible support fabric comprises an organomodified layered silicate nanofiller dispersed in a semicrystalline thermoplastic resin by intercalation and/or exfoliation of the layers to form points of physical crosslinking between the polymer chains of the resin. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an orthopedic structure produced by impregnating a flexible support fabric with (I), where the fabric has a large mesh size, with openings of 0.142-1.613 cm<2>, and is made of a cellulosic or synthetic material; and (2) a process for impregnating a flexible support fabric, comprising: (a) reacting a bifunctional oligomer with excess diisocyanate in an organic solvent to obtain a solution of a prepolymer having two terminal isocyanate groups; (b) preparing an organic solution of a chain-extending bifunctional polymer containing an organomodified nanofiller and a catalyst; (c) impregnating the fabric by successive immersions in a mixture of the two solutions; (d) removing the solvent by ramping the temperature from ambient to 150 degrees C; and (e) cooling the product to ambient temperature. |
