abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of unsymmetrical (meth) acrylate crosslinkers of the general formula (I) (I) CH 2 = CHCOO - [- (CH 2 ) x -CHR-O-] n -COCCH 3 = CH 2 with x = 1,2,3, R = H, CH 3 , n = 1-100 in which a hydroxyacrylate is reacted with methacrylic anhydride to form a crosslinker having acrylic and methacrylic groups, and the use of these asymmetrical (meth) acrylate crosslinkers for the preparation of superabsorbents and thickeners.
