Process for preparing an aryl formate and an aromatic carboxylic acid |
abstract |
A method of producing aryl formate by oxidizing the aromatic aldehydenin an organic solvent having substantially no ability of dissolving water withnperformic acid generated in situ in the reaction system from the reactionnbetween formic acid and hydrogen peroxide. n Optionally the method comprises a second step for decomposing thenaryl formate to a phenol compound. This second step may be performed bynthermally decomposing the aryl formate to the phenol compound and carbonnmonoxide at 110 to 350°C in liquid phase in the presence of an alkali metalncompound. |
