A mesomorphic compound having an ionicnconductivity is used as an electrolyte for a secondarynbattery etc. The mesomorphic compound may preferablynbe represented by the following formula (1):n R 1 -Xm-A-Yn-R 2 nwherein A denotes a mesomorphic mesogen groupnrepresented by the formula: A1-B1-A2-B2-A3-B3-A4-B4-A5-B5-A6,nin which A1, A2 and A3 independently denoten1,4-phenylene optionally having at least one CHnreplaced by CF or N, or 1,4-cyclohexylene; A4, A5 andnA6 independently denote a single bond, 1,4-phenylenenoptionally having at least one CH replaced by CF or N,nor 1,4-cyclohexylene; and B1, B2, B3, B4 and B5nindependently denote a single bond, -CH 2 O-, -OCH 2 -,n-COO- or -OOC-; X denotes -CH 2 CH 2 O- or -CH(CH 3 )CH 2 O-;nY denotes -OCH 2 CH 2 - or -OCH 2 CH(CH 3 )-; R1 and R2nindependently denote a linear or branched alkyl groupnhaving 1 - 100 carbon atoms optionally having at leastnone -CH 2 - replaced by -O-, -CO-, -S-, -CH=CH-,n-C(CH 3 )=CH-, -CH=C(CH 3 )-, -C(CH 3 )=CH-, -CH=C(CH 3 )-,n-C≡C- or epoxy group and optionally having at leastnone hydrogen atom replaced by fluorine atom; and m andnn independently denote an integer of 3 - 25. Thenmesomorphic compound may be a polymeric mesomorphicncompound. |
