abstract | Catalysts for the partial trimerisation of isophoronedi-isocyanate comprise quaternary ammonium carboxylates with one benzyl group and three other groups which form a tricylic system with a common carbon atom, the quat. nitrogen atom and at least one hydroxyl group in the alpha-, beta- or gamma- position to the nitrogen, A method for the production of low-odor, storage-stable, monomer-containing polyisocyanurates (I) from isophoronedi-isocyanate (IPDI) involves partial trimerisation for 30 seconds to 2 hours at 0-200degreesC in presence of 0.01-2 wt% of a catalyst of formula (R-NX3)+ Y- (II), in which R = benzyl; Y = a 4-8C carboxylate anion; X = 2-3C alkylene, with the 3 alkylene groups forming a tricyclic system incorporating a common carbon atom and the quat. nitrogen and with at least one hydroxyl group in the alpha-, beta- or gamma- position to the nitrogen . |
