The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of X and LSX zeolites agglomerated with a binder and of which approximately 50 to approximately 99% of the exchangeable sites are occupied by lithium ions which consists in carrying out the lithium exchange of a part of the exchangeable cations starting zeolite by contacting said zeolite distributed in a carousel of at least 2 containers in the form of a fixed bed arranged in series interchangeably, with a solution of lithium compounds (1) conveyed through the carousel, the succession of the containers of which is changed cyclically at given time intervals; when the desired lithium exchange rate is reached for the zeolite of the 1 st container, the latter is dissociated from the carousel and the zeolite contained therein is freed from the solution of lithium compounds by washing and then discharged (4) and optionally replaced by a new charge of zeolite to be exchanged and is characterized in that a purge (5) of the flux corresponding to the excess of lithium used is practiced, distinguishing it from the effluent generated by the carousel and in that 'we extract from the carousel: first the flow (5) corresponding to the percolation "e" at the outlet of the head column of the carousel, then the flow (3) corresponding to the percolation "Eo" at the exit of the carousel. n n n This process achieves a high level of lithium exchange with anlithium yield greatly improved compared to the processes of the prior art.
