abstract The present invention relates to an autonomously growing cell displaying S-100,nmurine MHC class I, and secreting murine interleukin-6 comprising co-cultivatingnconnective tissue fibroblasts obtained from a mammal with connective tissuendiseases and fibroblasts from mice for at least 6 hours under tissue culturenconditions. The cell of the invention is particularly useful in assessing the onsetnand/or the development of joint destruction, articular destruction and cartilagendestruction. It thus forms a basis for a model for studying rheumatoid arthritis. In anpreferred embodiment, the cell of the invention is produced by the cell line depositednwith DSMZ (Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen,nBraunschweig) under accession number DSM ACC 2455 on May 3, 2000.
