A process for producing a biodegradable polymer havingnfree carboxyl at the ω-end charcterized by polymerizing ancyclic ester compound in the presence of anhydroxymonocarboxylic acid derivative having protectedncarboxyl or a hydroxydicarboxylic acid derivative havingnprotected carboxyl, and then deprotecting the thus obtainednpolymer having protected carboxyl at the ω-end. Use of thenabove process makes it easy to control the molecular weightnof the target biodegradable polymer and the content of freencarboxyl therein, thereby enabling the efficient productionnof a polymer having a high purity and being contaminatednwith littel catalyst remaining therein. |
