abstract |
The present invention provides valuable intermediates which can be used in the synthesis of a compound having polyene chain structure, processes for preparing the same, and a process for preparing β-carotene by using said intermediates. The process for preparing β-carotene (Chemical Formula 3) or a compound having polyene chain structure, is characterized in that the polyene chain structure is formed by applying Ramberg-Bäcklund reaction to a diallylic sulfone obtained by the oxidation of diallylic sulfide. Further, the present invention provides retinyl sulfide which was synthesized by the coupling of diallylic sulfide with the corresponding Wittig salt. |
