abstract An examination device has a tubular probe (1) with a first, forward end (4) and a second rear end (5). The probe (1) is mounted in a hard piece (2) and a closure (3) is engaged with the second end (5) of the probe (1). A shield (6) is provided on the probe (1) either adjacent the first end (4) or spaced therefrom but forwardly of the hard piece (2) to shield the hard piece (2) against contact with body tissue. The shield (6) is also able to seal against a body orifice.
