abstract |
Analytical system for determining nitrogen monoxide, nnitrogen dioxide and ozone concentrations in air samples.nAn ultraviolet light source 4 is used to alter thenequilibrium between nitrogen dioxide and oxygen on thenone hand and nitrogen monoxide and ozone on the other.nDynamic measurement of ozone concentration with timenwhilst ultraviolet irradiation is pulsed enables each gasnconcentration to be calculated without requiring inputngases to be scrubbed. Apparatus 101 is further providednto provide a controlled flow of gas to a sensor 103 nattached to a high altitude balloon whilst sheltering itnfrom the elements and allowing for affects ofntemperature, said apparatus comprising a shield 104 and angas conducting means which uses the venturi effect toncontrol air flow or has a hole to allow water to drainnwithout affecting air flow past the sensor. |
