abstract This invention is of a drilling fluid composition containing a liquid thixotrope,nwhich thixotrope is free of solvents or any other diluent, and is in easily usable, liquidnform, pourable at ambient temperatures, and which provides effective and efficientnrheological properties when used at low levels in such compositions. n The invention discloses new drilling fluids, particularly useful as oil or oil invertndrilling muds, which are distinguished by improved anti-settling properties, highnecological acceptability, and at the same time good storage and application properties.nAn important area of application for the new drilling fluid systems is in both on and offshorenwells for the development of hydrocarbon deposits, the aim of the invention beingnparticularly to make available industrially usable drilling fluids with enhanced anti-settlingnproperties that provide satisfactory performance over wide ranges of shear andntemperature. n In a specific aspect, the invention provides an oil or oil invert emulsion drillingnfluid composition containing one or more organoclays, and in addition contains anadditive which comprises the reaction product of an alkoxylated nitrogen containingncompound or a diamine, and one or more polycarboxylic acids in a specified equivalentnratio.
