Process for the preparation of 2-aminomethyl-1,4-diamino-benzene or its salts of the formula (I), wherein n has a value from 0 to 3 and HX is an organic or inorganic acid, in which first a 2- (N-acylaminomethyl) -4-nitrophenol with a haloacetamide to form 2- (2-N-acylamino-methyl-4 -nitro-phenoxy) -acetamide is then reacted, then the 2- (2-N-acylaminomethyl-4-nitro-phenoxy) -acetamide is rearranged to 2- (N-acylaminomethyl) -4-nitroaniline, then the 2- (N -Acylaminomethyl) -4-nitroaniline is reduced to 1,4-diamino-2- (N-acylamino-methyl) -benzene, then deacetylated with hydrochloric acid to 2-aminomethyl-1,4-diamino-benzene trihydrochloride and the 2nd Aminomethyl-1,4-diamino-benzene trihydrochloride in the free base of the formula (I) (if n = 0) or in another salt of the formula (I) (if n ≠ 0 and HX ≠ HCl if n = 3) is transferred; and use of the compounds of formula (I) in colorants for keratin fibers. |
