abstract |
An apparatus and a method for water treatment is disclosed where andealkalization treatment cycle is used in conjunction with a pH adjustment cyclenor with a regeneration cycle or with both. The treatment cycle involvesncontacting untreated water with weak acid cation exchange resin, optionallynfollowed by pH adjustment. The regeneration cycle includes contacting partiallynexhausted weak acid cation exchange resin with weak acid regenerants, innparticular carbonic acid; use of weak acid regenerants avoids introduction ofnexcessive deposits of inorganic salts into the environment. The water treatmentnsystem can also be arranged to permit concurrent treatment and regenerationncycles and is useful for providing treated water on demand for both home andnbeverage service use. |
