The invention relates to a process fornrecovering monomeric units of a nylon from whole carpetncomprised of fibres comprised of said nylon and anbacking comprised of non-nylon components, which fibresnare bound to the backing, the whole carpet containingnbetween 15 and 35 wt.% of said nylon, which processncomprises the steps ofn a) mechanically separating the whole carpet into anbeneficiated carpet mixture which containsnbetween 35 and 55 wt.% of said nylon and into andepleted carpet mixture b) exposing the beneficiated carpet mixture tonconditions at which depolymerization of saidnnylon is effected. |
