abstract | The invention relates to a method for producing phytosqualane, characterized in that (a) a phytosqualane-containing residue resulting from vegetable oil production is esterified with a polyol for the derivatization of the fatty acid portion; (b) the resulting reaction mixture is separated into a polyol ester fraction (residue) and a phytosqualane-containing distillate; (c) the distillate is hydrogenated, yielding a squalane-rich fraction; (d) the resulting liquid hydrogenation product is subjected to fractionated crystallization; (e) the paraffin is removed from the liquid phase free of solid components by treatment with sulphur trioxide, chlorosulphonic acid or amidosulphonic acid; and (f) the pure phytosqualane is obtained from the residue by washing and deodorization. |
