Described is a method for identifying DNA replicating cells, which method comprisesnthe steps of adding during the cultivation of cells a halogenated pyrimidine to thenmedium, preferably BrUrd, treating the harvested cells by UV irradiation, nresuspending the cells in a solution with reduced ionic strength and identifying cellsnwith the incorporated halogenated pyrimidine, e.g. by using labelled antibodies. Thisnmethod can be combined with the simultaneous detection of cellular markers, e.g.nsurface antigens, thus, is useful for the diagnosis or prognosis of malignancies as wellnas the analysis of apoptosis, proliferation and cell-cycle kinetics. |
