The subject invention relates to a method for the stimulation of defensin production in eukaryotic cells such as, for example, mammalian cells. The method comprises exposing said cells to a composition comprising isoleucin or active isomers and analogs thereof. Furthermore, the invention includes said method for the prevention and treatment of infections and other various disease states and in the stimulation of the immune system. |
