Agents for specifically inhibiting osteoclastic bone resorption |
abstract |
The invention relates to inhibitors of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase which bind to osteoclasts in a receptor-mediated manner and which are internalized. As a result, the acid production by osteoclasts is inhibited thus assisting in the treatment of all bone diseases that involve increased osteoclastic activity (e.g. osteoporosis). The sulfonamides which contain one or more mannose radicals comprise this property. In the same manner, inhibitors of the H<+>- ATPase are modified so that they act on the osteoclasts in a targeted manner. |
