Surfactant-free emulsion polymerization process |
abstract |
The latex of an emulsion aggregation toner may be prepared without the use of ansurfactant. Such a process comprises preparing an emulsion of monomers in water without ansurfactant; adding a free radical initiator to at least a portion of the emulsion to initiate seednpolymerization to form seed polymer, wherein the free radical initiator attaches to the seednpolymer to form ionic, hydrophilic end groups on the seed polymer; and adding additionalnmonomer to the composition to complete polymerization to form a latex polymer. |
