titleOfInvention Animal restraining halter
abstract A halter (120) for controlling an animal, such as a dog, is provided having an anchor portion (146) secured across the front of the dog's head terminating at a pair of anchor points on the opposite sides of the animals neck and nape portion (128) extending across the back of the animal's neck slidably received within the anchor portion (146). The anchor portion (146) is typically placed over the snout of the dog in order to keep the halter away from sensitive tissues of the throat. When a leash connected to the nape portion is pulled, the segment (156) of the nape portion between the anchors (132, 138) pushes against the nape of the animal's neck thus stimulating a "righting" reflex and causing the animal to stop. Further control over the animal is gained by downward pressure applied to the top of the snout, stimulating a submissive behavioural response in the animal.
