A process of the invention produces a vinyl acetatenpolymer based emulsion by seed polymerization of vinyl acetatenin an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer based emulsion. Thisnprocess includes a step of performing seed polymerization whilenadding vinyl acetate to a system, and, prior to or subsequentnto the step, a step of adding a polymerizable unsaturatednmonomer other than vinyl acetate to the system. The amountnof the polymerizable unsaturated monomer other than vinylnacetate is, for example, about 0.05 to 10 parts by weightnrelative to 100 parts by weight of vinyl acetate. At leastnone monomer selected from acrylic esters, methacrylic esters, nvinyl esters, and vinyl ethers can be used as the polymerizablenunsaturated monomer other than vinyl acetate. n The invented process can produce a vinyl acetate polymernbased emulsion which has satisfactory low-temperaturenfilm-forming property and adhesive strength, even containingnno plasticizer, and which can exhibit a high adhesive strengthneven when cured at low temperatures. |
