A medical instrument including a handle (12), a cautery (16) for burning a lens capsule of an eye, the cautery (16) including a retractable-extendible portion being extendible from and retractable into the handle (12) so as to permit the insertion of the cautery portion through a small incision. Also, there is a mechanism (18) for extending and retracting the cautery portion, the mechanism being engaged by the handle, and an arrangment (20) for connecting the cautery with an electrical apparatus for heating the cautery portion. |
