Ink jet media having low coefficients of friction to enable efficient sheetnfeeding performance and which are compatible with modern inks. In anpreferred embodiment, ink jet media include a substrate, a coating includingna binder, a pigment, and a low friction substance. The low frictionnsubstance, in an emulsified form, is selected from the group consisting ofnwaxes, simple organic polymers, silicone polymers and fluoropolymers. Thenbinder is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylversatate, npolyethelene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyvinylacetatenand it comprises between about 5% and about 30%, by weight, of thencoating. Preferably, the pigment is alumina or silica. In addition, npolyterfluoroethylene latex is utilized as a slip aid. A method of preparingnink jet media includes the steps of providing a substrate and a coatingnincluding a binder, as described above. The binder is mixed with a lownfriction substance, in an emulsified form, selected from the group consistingnof waxes, simple organic polymers, silicone polymers and fluoropolymers.nThe mixture is applied to the substrate and the substrate is dried. |
