abstract | To obtain a grinding & polishing tool for diamond andna method for polishing diamond in which a single crystalndiamond, a diamond thin film, a sintered diamond compact andnthe like can be polished at low temperatures without causingncracks, fractures or degradation in quality therein, innaddition, in which polishing operation becomes easier,npolishing quality becomes stable and polishing costs becomenlowered while maintaining a stable performance of grinder. n The grinder and the method satisfying the abovenrequirements are: a grinding & polishing tool for diamondnof which main component is an intermetallic compoundnconsisting of one kind or more of elements selected from thengroup of Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir andnPt and one kind or more of elements selected from the groupnof Ti, V, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta and W; and a method for polishingndiamond in which diamond is polished by pushing the abovengrinder against the diamond rotating or moving relativenthereto while keeping the portion subjected to polishing atnroom temperature or, according to the situations, heating thensame at 100 - 800°C. |
