abstract |
A catalyst for hydrogenating heavy oils comprises annalumina carrier and a Group 6 metal component supportedntogether with a Group 9 or 10 metal component on thencarrier. The alumina carrier contains silica in annamount of 0.5 to 20 wt% in relation to catalyst weight.nSilica is dispersed in the carrier as a silica moietynwith a mean particle diameter of 0.05 to 1 µm. Thencatalyst has a pore diameter distribution such that thenmedian pore diameter of pores having diameters of 600 Ånor less is 70 Å or greater but less than 150 Å.nExcellent denitrogenation characteristics andndesulfurization characteristics are maintained for a longntime when a hydrodemetallated heavy oil is hydrogenated. |
