abstract A method for quantitating HDL cholesterol, comprisingnadding to serum a surfactant selected fromnamong polyethylene alkylene phenyl ethers andnpolyoxyethylene alkylene tribenzylphenyl ethers and annenzyme reagent for assaying cholesterol, optionally togethernwith a substance capable of inhibiting the reactionnof cholesterol in serum lipoproteins with thenabove enzyme reagent, and determining the amount of thencholesterol thus reacted within a period of time wherencholesterol in HDL, among lipoproteins, preferentiallynreacts with the above enzyme reagent. n By using this method, cholesterol in HDL can benconveniently and efficiently quantitated without resortnto any pretreatment such as centrifugation. Thus, itnis applicable to various automatic analyzers.
