An organic EL device has a hole injecting electrode,na negative electrode, at least one organic layer having anlight emitting function between the electrodes, and anhigh-resistance inorganic hole injecting layer between thenhole injecting electrode and the organic layer. Theninorganic hole injecting layer contains silicon oxidenand/or germanium oxide as a main component, represented byn(Si 1-x Ge x )O y wherein 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 and 1.7 ≤ y ≤ 2.2, and anconductive oxide having a resistivity of up to 1x10 10 Ω-cm.nThe device has advantages including an improved holeninjection efficiency, improved emission efficiency, lownoperating voltage, and low cost. |
