Process for the production of liquid crystal displays by using a chemisorption film |
abstract |
A process for producing at a high efficiency a monomolecular chemisorption film excellent in uniformity and molecular orientation and usable as a liquid crystal alignment film. This process comprises at least the step of bringing an adsorbate solution comprising a silane surfactant and a non-aqueous organic solvent into contact with the surface of a substrate in a dry atmosphere to form a solution layer from the adsorbate solution on the surface, the step of concentration and accelerated reaction of conducting chemisorption while evaporating the organic solvent contained in the solution layer, the aging step of continuing the chemical reaction until the lapse of a predetermined time after the completion of the evaporation, and the washing step of washing out unadsorbed surfactant remaining on the surface with a non-aqueous organic solvent. |
