abstract A method for determining or detecting the iodine concentration in a specimen comprising the step of pretreating the specimen by thermally digesting both the specimen and an oxidizing agent and the step of reacting the pretreated specimen with both a liquid arsenous acid reagent and a liquid ammonium cerium sulfate reagent and measuring the absorbance of the liquid reaction mixture, characterized in that the pretreatment step comprises heat treatment of the specimen under hermetically sealed conditions followed by cooling.
