In the presence of an imide compound of the followingnformula (1), a sulfur oxide is reacted with an organic substratento yield a corresponding sulfur acid or its salt. This processncan efficiently produce an organic sulfur acid or its salt undernrelatively mild conditions.n nwherein each of R 1 and R 2 is, identical to or different fromneach other, a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, nan aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxyngroup, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, or an acylngroup, where R 1 and R 2 may be combined to form a double bondnor an aromatic or non-aromatic ring; X is an oxygen atom orna hydroxyl group, where one or two N-substituted cyclic imidongroups indicated in the formula (1) may be further bonded tonthe aforementioned R 1 , R 2 or to the double bond or aromatic ornnon-aromatic ring formed together by R 1 and R 2 . |
