A surface plasmon device isnfabricated, which comprises a dielectric block arranged suchnthat a driving light having a uniform intensity is incident onnone plane thereof at a total reflection critical angle throughnan interior thereof, a metallic film formed over the one planenof the dielectric block, an optical functional film, a refractivenindex of which is changed by irradiation of light, formed overnthe metallic film such that the optical functional film isnirradiated with a signal light subjected to space modulation.nThe driving light reflected on the one plane upon irradiatingnthe optical functional film with the signal light is madenincident on the optical functional film by an optical system. |
