abstract |
Oligo- and polysaccharide esters which are regioselectively substituted to at least 90% of the total substitution, with ester groups at C2 of the anhydroglucose unit, are new. Independent claims are also included for enzymatically catalysed and salt-catalysed esterification processes for their preparation, comprising: (A) enzyme catalysed esterification of a dissolved or highly swollen oligo- or polysaccharide; or (B) where the ester has a DS below 1, acid catalysed esterification of an oligo- or polysaccharide dissolved or highly swollen in an organic solvent. |
