abstract A shell-and-tube heat exchanger for handling an easilynpolymerizable substance is disclosed, which is characterizednby having no part for stagnation of said process fluid onnthe surfaces for contact with the process fluid. Byneliminating undulations from the inner surfaces of the heatntransfer tubes, it is made possible to prevent the easilynpolymerizable substance from polymerizing and, at the samentime, prevent adhesion of a polymer to the surfaces. Thus,nthe efficiency of heat exchange is enhanced and thenprotracted continuous operation is realized.
