abstract The invention relates to a method for producing a gas turbine blade by directionally solidifying a melt (1) of a first metal in a casting mold (2), comprising providing the melt (1) in the casting mold (2) at a first temperature above the melting point of the first metal and then cooling the melt (1) in the casting mold (2) by immersing the casting mold (2) in a bath (3) made of a liquid second metal which is at a second temperature which is below the melting point of the first metal. This bath (3) is covered by a floating, flowable cover layer (4) made of a heat-insulating bulk material (5, 6), and the casting mold (2) with the melt (1) is passed through the cover layer (4) into the bath ( 3) submerged. A device for performing this method comprises a heating chamber (9) with a heating zone (7) for heating the melt (1) and the casting mold (2) to the first temperature, a crucible (10) arranged below the heating chamber (9) with the Bath (3) and a moving device (11) for moving the casting mold (2) from the heating zone (7) into the bath (3), the bath (3) being covered by the cover layer (4). The cover layer (4) preferably consists of ceramic hollow spheres (5). The invention is used in particular for producing a component (8) for a gas turbine, in particular a turbine blade (8).
