abstract A method of making a long, thin, flexible lens (260). The method comprises the steps of providing a mold (270) having a top surface (272) shaped corresponding to a desired lens shape. A curable optical material (278) is dispensed onto the top surface (272). A thin, flexible structural layer (264) is placed onto the top surface (272), over the curable optical material (278) to form a mold assembly (282). The mold assembly (282) is cured. The flexible lens (260) is removed from the mold top surface (272). The flexible lens (260) is capable of flexing in at least a 180° arc while maintaining its diffraction limited optical characteristics.
