A process for the preparation of a 5,5'-bi-1H-tetrazolendiammonium salt by dropwisely adding the aqueousnhydrogen peroxide to which a small amount of weakly acidicnsubstance has been added, to a starting aqueous solutionncontaining hydrogen cyanide or sodium cyanide or potassiumncyanide, sodium azide and a catalytic amount of coppernsulfate preferably at a low temperature to maintain the pHnof the reaction solution over a range of from 5 to 6,nheating the reaction solution to effect the oxidation andncyclization reaction, reacting the reaction product withnammonium chloride or an aqueous solution thereof, andnrecovering the formed ammonium salt in the form ofnsparingly soluble crystals. The desired product isnobtained in a high yield and in a high purity from thenstarting materials which are cheaply available and areneasy to handle through a decreased number of steps, i.e.,nthrough a one-pot reaction without requiring cumbersomenafter-treatment. |
