In onenaspect the invention provides a method for providing at leastnone selected sequence in a nucleic acid with interstrandncross-links comprising hybridising at least one selectednsingle strand sequence with a complementary single strandnnucleic acid wherein said selected sequence or saidncomplementary nucleic acid or both comprise a cross-linkingnagent. The means and methods of the invention may be used innand beneficial for a wide variety of applications, such asnthe generation of nucleic acid probes and the treatment ofndiseases such as cancer.
