abstract | A shoe for running, cross training and the like includes a basenmember (12) including a raised front portion and a rearwardly extendingnrear portion. A U-shaped spring (14) is disposed beneath the raisednportion. The spring has transversely extending ends engaging the frontnportion at respective longitudinally spaced locations. The front end ofnthe spring is preferably unconnected to the raised portion such that anprojection on the latter cams against and flattens the spring when thenuser's weight is put on the raised portion. A sole spring element (16)nis affixed to the front portion of base member and includes a flexiblenpart (16b) overlying, and extending rearwardly beyond, the sole portionnof the base member. The flexible part of the rear spring element (16b)nis disposed at an acute, non-zero angle with respect to the sole portionn(12b) of the base member. |
