A mold assembly for forming an ophthalmic lens, the moldnassembly comprising a first mold and a second mold whichncooperate with each other to define therebetween a moldncavity having a profile following that of the ophthalmicnlens, characterised in that: at least one of the first andnsecond molds is a coated mold (2, 4a) consisting of a bodynportion (8, 13) including a backing surface (9, 13a) havingnrigidity and mechanical strength enough to withstand anmolding operation for forming the ophthalmic lens (24) innthe mold cavity (6), and a thermoplastic film (10, 14)nretained on the body portion such that the thermoplasticnfilm covers the backing surface of the body portion, thenthermoplastic film having a molding surface (11, 15) whichnpartially defines the mold cavity and which gives ancorresponding one of opposite surfaces of the ophthalmicnlens. |
