abstract Process for dyeing a textile fabric with indigo comprises passing the fabric through a series of 8 baths of indoxyl solution and, between each bath, oxidizing the indoxyl to indigo by exposing the fabric leaving bath n to air for a time equal to n times x, where x is the exposure time after bath 1. Process for dyeing a textile fabric with indigo comprises: (a) prewashing the fabric by passing it though one or two baths of prewash solution; (b) dyeing the fabric by passing it through a series of 8 baths of indoxyl solution and, between each bath, oxidizing the indoxyl to indigo by exposing the fabric leaving bath n to air for a time equal to n times x, where x is the exposure time after bath 1; (c) washing the fabric by passing it through a water bath, three acetic acid baths and a final water bath with a pH of 6-7, and then predrying the fabric by passing it between rollers; (d) fixing the indigo dye by passing the fabric through a bath containing a mixture of resins to form a transparent film on the fabric fibers; (e) drying the fabric on a series of rollers and winding it onto a drum. An Independent claim is also included for an installation for carrying out the process, comprising a prewashing unit, a dyeing unit, a washing and predrying unit, a fixing unit and a drying unit.
