The invention relates to the process for generatingninfectious Newcastle disease virus (NDV) entirely from clonednfull-length cDNA and to the use of vaccines and diagnosticnassays generated with and derived from said process. Thenprocess offers the possibility to modify the NDV genome bynmeans of genetic modification and allows the introduction ofnmutations, deletions, and/or insertions. The process can benused to modify the virulence of NDV, thereby generating newnattenuated live vaccines with enhanced properties. Thenprocess can be used to modify the antigenic make-up of NDV,nthus allowing the generation of live NDV marker vaccinesnwhich can be serologically distinguished from NDV fieldnstrains. |
