Various genes of herpes virus of turkeys (HVT),nMarek's disease virus (MDV) and infectiousnlaryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) have been identified asnnon-essential regions (and candidates for insertion sites.nfor foreign genes) and/or as antigen-encoding regions.nThe former include the HVT homologue of the HSV (herpesnsimplex virus) gC gene, the TK (thymidine kinase) regionnof MDV or ILTV, ORF3 of ILTV (as defined herein), thenribonucleotide reductase (large subunit) gene of ILTV,nMDV or HVT and the ribonucleotide reductase (smallnsubunit) gene of MDV. The antigen-encoding regionsninclude the HVT homologues of the HSV gB, gC and gHngenes, the ILTV homologue of HSV gB, ORF2 of ILTV, andnthe HVT homologue of the HSV-1 immediate early genes IE-175nand IE-68. n Manipulation of these genes allows vaccines to benprepared comprising attenuated virus or virus carryingnheterologous antigen-encoding sequences. |
