A system for providing medical electricalnstimulation to a portion of the nervous system. Thensystem includes a rigid hollow needle 105 having a lumenn104, a flexible lead body 102disposed within the lumennof the needle, the lead body having a insulated coilednproximal section and an electrode section 103, thenproximal section comprising a conductor 115 which isncoiled and insulated, the electrode section comprises anportion of the coiled conductor which is not insulated.nIn an alternative embodiment the electrode sectionnfeatures a crimp core 113 around which a distal end ofnthe coiled conductor which is not insulated is crimped, nthe rigid hollow needle is metal but which is partiallyncovered along its outer surface with an insulation. Innstill further embodiments the flexible lead body has anstylet lumen therein and the lead body also has anconnector pin 101 for electrically connecting thenelectrical conductor to a pulse generator. Preferablynthis connector pin located on a proximal end of the leadnbody and having a diameter no greater than the innerndiameter of the needle. A method of providing temporarynelectrical stimulation to the sacral nerve is alsondisclosed. |
